St. Louis County NAACP President to run for Missouri State Senate
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - John Bowman, President of the St. Louis County NAACP, has launched a campaign to run for a Missouri State Senate seat.
On Tuesday morning, Bowman announced his plan to run for Missouri Senate's 14th District seat.
The district includes several municipalities in north- and mid-St. Louis County, including parts of University City, Ladue, Ferguson, Bridgeton and Hazelwood. The seat is currently held by Democrat Brian Williams, who recently announced a campaign to run for St. Louis County Executive in 2026.
Bowman gathered at City Jump to announce his campaign with supporters from his early days at Chrysler, in addition to former St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley.
Bowman isn't new to political office. He has several years of experience as a Missouri State Representative and a chief of staff in the Missouri Senate.
In 2008, Bowman pleaded guilty to federal charges related to credit card scams and resigned from his Missouri House seat.
"I am not a perfect man," said Bowman during a news conference on Tuesday. "In 2008, I made a mistake and stepped away from elected office. It was humbling, it was painful, but it wasn't the end. As I stated then, it was a comma in my life, but not the period."
Bowman has served as the St. Louis County NAACP President since 2019, leading efforts to advocate for civil rights and address for issues affecting the local Black community.
