St. Ann woman charged after being shot by officer on I-70
CLAYTON, Mo. – A St. Ann woman shot overnight by a St. Louis County police officer along Interstate 70 has been charged.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the shooting took place around 12:30 a.m. on eastbound I-70, near the Blanchette Bridge.
Police responded to a report of a person with a gun walking on eastbound I-70 near the Earth City Expressway. The woman, later identified as Janee Ryan, was allegedly a threat to herself, police said.
Police said Ryan pointed a gun at one of the officers, and one of the officers fired his weapon. Ryan suffered a graze wound and attempted to charge the police but was stopped by another officer.
Ryan was taken to the hospital to be treated. A gun was recovered from the scene.
No officers were injured. According to police, the officer who fired at the woman is a 28-year-old man and has five years of law enforcement experience.
Eastbound I-70 was shut down for an extended period of time after the shooting but eventually reopened.
Ryan was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and six counts of fourth-degree assault. She remains in custody on a $250,000 cash-only bond. Online court records do not show when she’ll appear before a judge.
