Spectrum offers $25K reward after network attacks in Missouri, Illinois

ST. LOUIS - Charter Spectrum is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for relevant information about criminal acts affecting its services in Missouri and Illinois.

The Spectrum Vandalism Reward Program is open to adult U.S. residents in 10 states, including Missouri and Illinois. Spectrum is asking for credible information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in theft or vandalism of its services.

The program comes as criminals continue to cut and steal wire cables, disrupting telecommunications networks nationwide. In July, Spectrum reported a 200% year-over-year increase in felony attacks on its networks in Missouri.

Acts of theft and vandalism, according to Spectrum, are cutting internet access to homes, businesses, dispatch centers and emergency services, putting public safety at risk.

“Our teams work tirelessly to provide the highest level of service and reliability to our customers and these felony, criminal attacks cause outages that go far beyond the inconvenience of lost connectivity,” said Tom Monaghan, Executive Vice President, Field Operations for Charter. “The impact is that of domestic terrorism, cutting off access to critical services, preventing vital communications during times of emergency and crisis, creating a pervasive and persistent threat to families and businesses in Missouri and across the country. This criminal activity must not be allowed to continue. We need the continued support of law enforcement, an increased commitment to prosecuting the criminals behind these attacks and help from the public by reporting suspicious activity when they see it.”

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reminded the public about the program Friday via Facebook and also announced charges in two cases that could have possibly qualified for a reward.

Anyone with credible information and possibly seeking a reward through the program is encouraged to call Spectrum at 833-404-TIPS (8477) or click here for further guidance.
