Southbound I-5 from SR-52 to Mission Bay Drive closed this weekend
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A portion of Interstate 5 in San Diego will be closed this weekend which could impact drivers' travel plans and neighboring communities.
Starting Friday, Sept. 5 at 9 p.m., crews with the California Department of Transportation will close all lanes of southbound I-5 from State Route 52 to Mission Bay Drive.
The closure will be in place until Monday, Sept. 8 at 5 a.m., Caltrans stated.
The department is expected to give more details about the closure and project scope during a news conference on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, drivers will be expected to take a detour during the closure via southbound Interstate 805. From there, they can connect to southbound State Route 163 and then connect to westbound Interstate 8. See the detour map below, courtesy of Caltrans.

Commuters can then connect to either northbound or southbound I-5 to continue toward their intended destination.
