SLMPD investigates 4 weekend shootings

ST. LOUIS – Two people are dead, and four others injured after multiple shootings across the City of St. Louis over the weekend.

Detectives were out canvasing near North Taylor and Cottage Avenues on Monday morning where three people were shot Sunday night.

"There were numerous shell casings recovered from that area where that ShotSpotter activated where we believe the individuals were shot, the 39-, 40-, and 35-year-old men, but right now detectives are building that timeline," Mitch McCoy, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman, said.

All three victims were taken to the hospital, but the 39-year-old later died.

That was not the only shooting in what was a busy weekend for St. Louis. Early Sunday morning, an argument between several people on Spruce Street downtown led to a shooting. Two men in their 20s were hit but are expected to survive.

Another person is in critical condition after a shooting on Goodfellow on Saturday afternoon.

"It's my understanding that it happened in the price Chopper parking lot," McCoy said. "We know that the man is in critical condition. District detectives are investigating it."

No suspect has been arrested in that case.

In another incident over the weekend, an officer shot and killed a man wearing a hoodie, facemask, and gardening gloves. Officers believed they observed the suspect dealing drugs near Tower Grove Park.

"As the officers parked their patrol car, the suspect immediately pulled the weapon from his waistband and pointed it at police officers. Thank God this is not a firearm that shoots bullets," McCoy said.

An officer shot through his own windshield and killed the suspect. It was later discovered that the suspect had a CO2-powered air pistol. No officers were injured.
