Silverback gorilla Paul Donn reunites with mother at San Diego Zoo Safari Park
SAN DIEGO (FOX5/KUSI)--Silverback gorilla Paul Donn joined the troop at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park about a month ago, and the 36-year-old seems to be feeling quite at home.
Paul was originally born at the Safari Park and then went to the San Diego Zoo.
He is now back home after his stay at the zoo, and his arrival marks the first silverback in the troop since Winston’s passing last year. In addition to Paul Donn, a 44-year-old female gorilla named Jessica has also joined the troop.
Paul Donn returns to the troop he was raised in and has been reunited with some familiar faces. The family troop of six gorillas also includes Paul Donn's mother, Cami.
He was one of two unrelated males that Winston allowed into his troop until they neared reproductive age.
The duo joined the troop about a month ago and has acclimated well.
"These guys have their each individual personalities; they all have their own preferences, too," said Sam, an animal care expert at the park.
Paul Donn can be found eating his favorite treat, grapefruit, or lounging by the waterfall, now appropriately nicknamed Paul's Falls.
The Safari Park's hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 1, through Friday, Oct. 3.
