Severe thunderstorm, flash flood warning for parts of eastern San Diego County due to heavy rain, storms
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Parts of eastern San Diego County will be under a Flash Flood Warning and Severe Thunderstorm Warning through Monday afternoon, with high winds, hail and heavy rain possible, the National Weather Service reports.
The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the area surrounding Pine Valley until 2:45 p.m. Winds up to 60 mph and nickel-sized hail is possible. A Flash Flood Warning for Pine Valley will be in effect until 5 p.m. Monday.

Doppler radar picked up thunderstorms and heavy rain in the area around Descanso around 12:40 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, which warned that the area is expected to see up to 1 inch of rain per hour and that flash flooding is possible until 3:45 p.m. Monday.

NWS reports around 0.75 and 1.5 inches of rain have already fallen in the area and additional rainfall of 0.5 to 1.75 inches is possible for areas in eastern San Diego County, including Alpine, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Descanso, Pine Valley, Hwy S1 between Lake Cuyamaca and Mount Laguna, Guatay, Boulder Creek and Japatul Valley.

The NWS reports at 2:04 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was tracked near Hwy 52 between Shelter Valley and Agua Caliente with up to 70 mph winds and nickle-sized hail. The most impacted locations include Hwy 78 Between Banner and S2, Hwy 78 between S2 and Borrego Springs
Rd, Hwy S2 between Shelter Valley and Agua Caliente, Fish Creek Wash, Hwy S2 between Hwy 79 and Hwy 78, and Shelter Valley.
The area between Borrego Springs and Mount Laguna is also under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning through 3 p.m. Monday, with up to 70 mph winds and nickel-sized hail possible.

Mount Laguna is under a special weather statement through 3:15 p.m. Monday with up to 55 mph winds and half-inch hail possible, according to NWS. If you are in the area, seek shelter in a sturdy structure.

Caltrans has issued a high wind advisory for Interstate 8 from Alpine to Ocotillo amid the severe weather. Drivers are advised to reduce speed and use headlights and wipers when it is raining.
Neighboring Imperial County will also be under a flood watch starting at 1 p.m. Mountain Standard Time, after being under a Flash Flood Warning Sunday evening.
This follows a weekend of rain and lightning from increased monsoonal moisture sweeping through the region. And it's not over just yet, some parts of San Diego County could see more precipitation through Tuesday.
The severe thunderstorms are expected to cause tree damage and could damage mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings. Move to an inside room or the lowest floor of a building to stay safe.
If you come across pooled water on the roadway during a flash flood event, turn around, don't drown is the advise authorities will give you.
NWS says there can be hundreds of low water crossings in hilly terrain, which can be potentially dangerous during heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
