Senior dog in search of home enjoys visiting fire station

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Ferb is a senior dog but is young at heart.

The St. Charles Fire Department introduced the 10-year-old dog as a special VIP guest, highlighting his availability for adoption from the Five Acres Animal Shelter.

Ferb is known for his calm demeanor, as he doesn't react to sirens and lounges with the fire crew during quieter moments.

The fire department welcomes him every week, providing him a break from the shelter environment.

"He howls and sings and he loves it," said Madeline Klene, who is involved with Five Acres Animal Shelter. "We saw his birthday was coming up in our system, so we reached out to our friends at the fire station and said, 'We have a dog who wants to hear some sirens and go hang out somewhere for his birthday.'"

Ferb loves two things more than anything: spending time with people and snacks, both of which he gets plenty of during his visits to the fire department.
