Second suspect charged in auto repair shop scam in Overland

CLAYTON, Mo. – A second suspect has been charged for his role in allegedly scamming an auto repair shop in Overland out of several thousand dollars last summer.

According to the Overland Police Department’s probable cause statement, the scam targeted Dave’s Auto on Lackland Road, between Aug. 6 and Aug. 28, 2024.

Stephen J. Telgmann Jr., Abel Montiel, and a cohort obtained the auto repair shop’s banking info for the shop’s business account at Commerce Bank.

Police allege that Telgmann and the other suspects used that bank info collectively steal approximately $14,600 from the auto shop.

The suspects used the info to make direct payments to a Home Depot credit card and a Lowe’s credit card, as well as online purchases at Home Depot, and for rental payments to Public Storage.

Investigators said the auto repair shop owner closed his business account at the bank after viewing his August 2024 bank statement.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Telgmann with stealing – $750 or more. Telgmann was issued a criminal summons to appear in court on Sept. 16.

Montiel was previously charged and issued a criminal summons for a Sept. 8 court date.
