Detectives with the San Marcos Sheriff's Station served a search warrant on Sept. 4 at an apartment in the 400 block of Smilax Road. The suspect, identified as Weston Strawn, was taken into custody outside his apartment as he was walking to his vehicle.

Authorities say Strawn had been under investigation for breaking into a vending machine in the 1200 block of West Mission Road on two separate occasions. The thefts caused significant damage to the machine and resulted in the loss of valuable trading cards.

During the search of Strawn’s apartment and a detached garage, detectives recovered several of the stolen trading cards. They also found property linked to a separate theft case, in which Strawn was also identified as the suspect.

The total value of the recovered property is estimated at $4,500.

Strawn was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on three separate charges of grand theft.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station at 760-510-5200.
