San Diego Wave FC retires Alex Morgan's No. 13 jersey
(FOX 5/KUSI) — Alex Morgan, already a historic player during her time on the Wave FC's squad, cemented her legacy with the team at Sunday's game, which included a ceremony to retire her jersey, No. 13.
In front of a celebratory crowd at Snapdragon Stadium, Morgan and her family received the honor, making her just the third player in the National Women's Soccer League to have their jersey retired.
"This means everything," Morgan said at the podium to cheers from the home crowd.
She spoke about her time with the team, which she was a part of since its debut season in 2022, and for which she remains its all-time leading scorer.
Sunday's match against the Houston Dash ended in a 3-0 loss, but the main focus was on the jersey retirement ceremony for Morgan.
Since her retirement in 2024 after a 15-year career in professional soccer, she has become a minority investor in the Wave, continuing her connection with the team, this time in management.
Meanwhile, her presence at the stadium will forever be marked with a banner, her name and the number 13 hanging in the northwest corner.
