San Diego museums and attractions free for kids in October

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A popular free admission program for children returns next month to many of San Diego's museums and beloved attractions.

Starting Oct. 1, more than 60 museums, historic sites and other attractions throughout San Diego County will be free for kids 12 and under.

Participating locations include the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, the California Surf Museum, the Comic-Con Museum, the USS Midway Museum and others.

A full list of museums and participating sites can be found on the San Diego Museum Council's website.

Kids must be accompanied by a paying adult to be eligible for the free admission. Families can claim the offer online between Oct. 1-31 on the San Diego Museum Council's website and must present the coupon at the participating location.

Some museums charge fees for special exhibitions, programs or films and may also limit the offer to once per month per guest.

A Balboa Park Explorer Pass does not qualify as paid adult admission for the Kids Free in October program. A Go San Diego Pass or card may not qualify as paid adult admission for the offer in most museums, the council's website states. Guests are encouraged to check with the participating location to confirm the rates.
