San Diego launches citywide survey to assess community recreation needs
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The City of San Diego recently launched a survey focused on understanding and addressing community recreation needs.
The first-ever Community Recreation Needs Assessment invites San Diegans to provide their thoughts on city-owned facilities and recreational activities provided by the city's Parks and Recreation Department.
In collaboration with Keen Independent Research, Inc., the city will gather insight from surveys, interviews, in-person public meetings and more to evaluate how well the community's recreational needs are being met.
Following the assessment, the city will develop an action plan to address areas of concern and eliminate any barriers to recreation in the community.
“By listening directly to our residents, we can identify gaps, remove barriers, and ensure that every neighborhood in San Diego has the resources residents needs to thrive," San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said in a statement.
According to the city, the assessment will be conducted in three phases, each of which will span the course of four months.
The first phase will be carried out in council districts 4, 8 and 9. The second phase will be conducted within council districts 3, 6 and 7, and the last phase will focus on council districts 1, 2 and 5.
San Diegans have until Feb. 28, 2026, to fill out the online survey, which can be found on the city's website. The assessment is expected to be completed by next summer.
