San Diego FC, Club Tijuana announce Baja Cup

SAN DIEGO, Calif. ─ An annual friendly match between San Diego FC and Xolos of Club Tijuana, taking place through 2030, was officially named the Baja Cup on Thursday.

The five-year partnership was announced by the 2025 MLS expansion team and the Liga MX team in May of 2024.

According to San Diego FC, the Baja Cup will commence in September, which will include a community service project and a youth soccer tournament. The main match between the two clubs lands on Mexican Independence Day.

A Baja Cup logo was released as part of the announcement. The new logo displays the Coronado Bridge intertwined with the Friendship Arch.

Players from SDFC and Xolos will gather to plant trees and beautify a soccer field on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Primaria Ramón López Velarde, Tijuana.

Four days later, the first-ever Baja Cup youth tournament will happen at Maranatha Christian Schools from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

SDFC says, there will be 30 teams and 250 players from Tijuana and San Diego in the tournament.

Following SDFC's match against Minnesota United FC on Heritage Night, the first bi-national cup will take place Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Snapdragon Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
