San Diego County welcomes first rain in months from monsoon
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Monsoonal moisture ushered in showers and thunderstorms from the coastline to the deserts in San Diego County to start off the weekend.
Showers and storm activity across the county decreased through Saturday night after dropping less than 0.10" in places like Encinitas and Borrego Palm Canyon.
According to a post by the Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center, after 162 days of no measurable rainfall, Borrego Springs reported .05" of rainfall on Saturday.
Thunderstorms produced 67 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes throughout the afternoon with a total of 174 strikes tracked.
Across the state, Governor Gavin Newsom posted a warning on X that California has had more than 3,300 lightning strikes over the past 24 hours, sounding the alarm about extreme fire danger.
Cal Fire reportedly deployed additional firefighters ahead of potential thunderstorms and the extreme heat warning in the deserts and heat advisory in effect through 8 p.m. on Saturday.

High temperatures will stay about 5 degrees above average on Sunday, making it feel humid and muggy outside.
On Tuesday, rain chances return, ranging between 20-30% in the mountains and deserts with about a 5-15% chance in the coastal communities and inland valleys.
