San Diego County Office kicks off National Night Out in Fallbrook
FALBROOK (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a series of National Night Out events aimed at deepening community-law enforcement relationships.
The first of several kicked off Saturday night with friends, family, and neighbors filling Main Street in downtown Fallbrook.
It's a space to engage with law enforcement and create a sense of partnership.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to work in our community like this so it's fun," said Sheriff Kelly Martinez.
From demonstrations to tactical displays, uniformed crews brought action to the crowd.
“Our SWAT Unit is here. We’ve got some Bomb Arson folks who are here. We just had ASTREA fly over and make an announcement saying hi to the community," said Sheriff Martinez.
National Night Out isn’t just about police; it also highlights the work of firefighters, EMS, and other first responders.
“It's fun to see all the stuff that they use, and you get to go inside and see the inside of trucks and all that," said Fallbrook resident Abel Pacheco.
Whether it was the vintage car show, the giveaways or the live music, National Night Out offered a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy.
“We hear people now saying I’ve been coming for the last 5 years, and now they’re bringing their children and grandchildren, so this is now becoming one of those well-loved nostalgic events that carry one from generation to generation," said Heather Mitchell with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Unit.
For some, it's more than a night, it's a foundation for the future.
“It does inspire me, and I do want to become a sheriff when I grow up," said 8-year-old Fallbrook resident Chance Currie. "I love helping other people and if I have the job, it can be delightful to help out.”
