San Diego councilwoman Marni von Wilpert launches congressional campaign

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Local Councilwoman Marni von Wilpert announced on FOX 5 Wednesday morning that she's entering the race for California's 48th Congressional District. She's challenging incumbent Darrell Issa for the seat.

Representing San Diego's District 5, Marni von Wilpert was elected to the city council in 2020. Prior to assuming office, the attorney has served in roles on the National Labor Relations Board, Economic Policy Institute and San Diego City Attorney’s Office.

While announcing her congressional run, the councilwoman pointed to a few key issues she plans to focus on during her campaign. She mentioned the rising cost of living, how the ongoing tariff war impacts small businesses, the cut of federal grants for health and sciences, among other topics.

"I thought, it's time to stand up and fight back, and that's why I am running," von Wilpert stated.
