San Diego bus driver dies after experiencing medical emergency while driving MTS bus
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A San Diego bus driver died at the hospital after experiencing a medical emergency while driving a bus with passengers on board.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded at 9 a.m. Tuesday to a MTS bus that had crashed on State Route 163, blocking traffic going onto the highway from University Avenue.
According to CHP, a 60-year-old MTS bus driver experienced a medical emergency while driving on State Route 163 north in University Heights. The bus veered off the highway, hit a guardrail on the right shoulder and became disabled, blocking the on-ramp from University Avenue.
The driver was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.
No injuries were reported among the passengers on board, according to CHP.
CHP is investigating the cause and sequence of events of the crash and reports alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor.
