San Diego Bunnyfest brings together bunny lovers for a good cause

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- An outdoor festival being held in San Diego this weekend will feature activities, crafts and merchandise for bunny lovers of all ages.

On Sunday, Sept. 21, bunnies, rabbit experts and more than 50 vendors will take over a field at Liberty Station for the annual San Diego Bunnyfest open-air festival. The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 2705 Cushing Road.

Aside from uniquely-themed merchandise, arts and crafts, and photo opportunities, the event will also include an "Ask A Vet" booth for anyone with questions about their pet rabbit's health, as well as free educational sessions about how to properly care for rabbits.

A schedule of programs at the festival can be found here.

Pet rabbits are welcome if they are secured in a stroller and are vaccinated against Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV).

General admission tickets cost $5 when purchased ahead of the event, and are $6 when purchased on-site. Children ages 5 and under may enter for free.

All proceeds from Bunnyfest will go toward caring for the rabbits at the San Diego House Rabbit Society. According to event organizers, operational costs to care for the rabbits can exceed $630,000 per year, and the proceeds from Bunnyfest help alleviate the expenses.

More information about Bunnyfest can be found on the event's website.
