Russians damage 20th substation belonging to Ukraine's largest private energy company DTEK

Russian forces once again targeted energy facilities in Odesa Oblast on the night of 11-12 December, striking a substation which belongs to DTEK, the largest private Ukrainian energy company. This is the 20th substation in the region to have sustained significant damage.

Quote: "At night, the Russian Federation struck a DTEK substation in Odesa Oblast. This is already the 20th substation to have suffered significant damage in the oblast. A facility belonging to another energy company was also hit."

Details: DTEK reported that they have already managed to restore power to 40,000 households using backup schemes. Another 90,000 remain temporarily without electricity.

"Energy workers across Odesa Oblast are operating in an enhanced mode to deal with the aftermath of the attack as quickly as possible," the company added.

Background:

  • Earlier, it was reported that on the night of 11-12 December, Russian forces carried out another attack on Odesa, damaging the city's infrastructure.
  • Previously, on the night of 22-23 November, strikes by Russian drones on Odesa Oblast caused fires at energy infrastructure facilities and in a non-operating industrial building, which firefighters promptly extinguished.
