Quote: "Russia attacked the Naftogaz Group's oil and gas infrastructure in Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts. There have been direct hits. Several facilities came under drone attack at the same time."

Details: According to Koretskyi, the attack lasted almost an entire day. One facility in Sumy Oblast was struck a second time several hours after the initial attack.

Damage has been recorded, and fires broke out at the impact sites.

"Over the past few weeks, attacks on Naftogaz Group facilities have become systematic – almost daily," Koretskyi said.

Critical infrastructure facilities in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts remain under attack from Russian drones.

Background:

  • On 22-23 May, Russian forces carried out a large-scale attack on Naftogaz Group oil and gas facilities in Kharkiv and Poltava oblasts that lasted more than 24 hours.
  • Earlier, on the evening of 19 May, Russia launched a missile strike on Naftogaz's oil and gas infrastructure in Chernihiv Oblast.
  • On 13 May, Russia again targeted Naftogaz infrastructure in two Ukrainian regions. In Kharkiv Oblast, a Russian drone damaged a gas production facility, while another company site in Zhytomyr Oblast also came under attack.
  • Previously, Koretskyi said that following Russia's large-scale combined attack on gas production facilities on 5 May, the Naftogaz Group would have to import additional volumes of natural gas.
