Russian secret services said to be planning to stir unrest in Ukraine through staged "peaceful protests"
Russian secret services are planning to destabilise Ukraine by fuelling unrest under the cover of "peaceful protests".
Source: Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliamentary Human Rights Commissioner, on social media
Details: Lubinets, citing data he has obtained, warns that Russian secret services are likely preparing to stage protests in major cities in Ukraine's south and east – Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv and Mykolaiv – and in Kyiv.
Quote: "The Russian Federation is seeking to exploit human pain and vulnerability. They plan to involve mainly women, including mothers of our service members who are prisoners of war or missing in action, by offering material incentives. The enemy expects this to create the emotional background they need, ensure media coverage and provoke public resonance."
More details: Lubinets also said Russia is planning to use these measures to destabilise Ukraine's internal political situation and put pressure on the country's military and political leadership, particularly as Ukraine and the US actively discuss terms for ending the war.
Quote: "We must be clear: Russia will continue to attempt to hit us where it hurts most – our trust, unity and the families of our defenders. That is why it is essential to remain vigilant and prevent the enemy from exploiting human tragedy as a tool of information warfare against Ukraine!"
Background: Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that differences remain among the parties to the negotiations on the "peace plan" – the US, Russia and Ukraine – regarding territorial issues and security guarantees.
