Russian missile hits high-rise building in Kharkiv: one person killed, over 60 injured – photos, video

A Russian ballistic missile carrying cluster munitions struck a high-rise building in the city of Kharkiv on the morning of 18 April, with one person reported dead and over 60 injured.

Quote from Terekhov: "An enemy missile hit a densely populated area of Kharkiv. A high-rise building was struck. People may be trapped under the rubble."

Details: Syniehubov reported that, following early reports, the missile strike hit apartment buildings in the Osnovianskyi district, injuring 20 people.

Update: Terekhov said there was a child among the casualties. The mayor of Kharkiv also reported that one person had been killed and 26 injured.

Quote from Terekhov: "Early reports indicate that Kharkiv has been struck with ballistic missiles carrying cluster munitions. That is why the affected area is so large."

Details: Early reports from Terekhov indicate that 15 apartment buildings were affected.

Syniehubov confirmed that among the casualties were a four-year-old child and a child under three years old. He added that the number of injured had risen to 28.

Quote from Terekhov: "Over 20 apartment buildings and over 30 houses were affected. There are already 40 injured."

Updated: In the morning, Terekhov added that the number of casualties was over 60.  

Thirteen people were hospitalised, including two children. Four people are in a critical condition.

Background: Explosions were heard in Sumy, Kharkiv and Dnipro on the morning of 18 April.
