Russia launches Iskander missile and 323 drones, Ukrainian air defence destroys 217 UAVs

Russian forces have attacked Ukraine with an Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missile and 323 drones of various types since the evening of 28 May. Air defence forces have managed to destroy or jam 217 drones, although some hits have been recorded.

Quote: "As of 08:30, [Ukrainian] air defence forces had destroyed or jammed 217 Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas and other types of drones in the country's north, south and east. Hits by a ballistic missile and 14 UAVs had been recorded at 14 locations and the fall of downed aerial assets (debris) at 7 locations."

Details: As of 08:30, the attack is ongoing, as several Russian drones are still in Ukrainian airspace.

Background:

  • During Russia's attack on Ukraine on the night of 28-29 May, a drone crashed into a 10-storey residential building in the Romanian city of Galați. Two people were taken to hospital and 70 residents were evacuated.
  • Romania's Ministry of Defence said that since the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, drone debris has been found on Romanian territory on 47 occasions.
  • Romania's Foreign Ministry described the crash of a Russian drone into a residential apartment building in Galați on the night of 28-29 May as a serious escalation by Moscow.
