Ruling allows Mizzou’s Students for Justice in Palestine to partake in parade
COLUMBIA, Mo. - A federal judge has ruled that the University of Missouri must allow the student group “Students for Justice in Palestine” to participate in its upcoming homecoming parade.
The decision comes with the condition that the group complies with the university's parade policy, which outlines the purposes of the parade as celebrating the university, cultivating alumni connections, honoring university-selected achievements and rallying support for the Missouri Tigers in their game against the University of Massachusetts.
In response to the judge’s ruling, Mizzou Students for Justice in Palestine released a statement on social media, saying:
“Not only does the Court’s decision help vindicate our rights after we were unjustly targeted and denied last year, but it’s a big win for the Palestinian movement across the country,” the organization wrote. “No matter how hard they try to silence our voices, we will never stop advocating for the Palestinian people, and their right to exist with peace and dignity.”
Mizzou’s homecoming parade is on Sept. 27 at 9 a.m.
