Details: Dan visited two people injured after a Russian drone hit a residential building and sparked a fire in Galați.
He later said that the injuries sustained by a woman and her child were not serious and that they are recovering well. He also announced that financial assistance will be provided to families affected by the incident.
"Both [the mother and her child – ed.] are doing very well. They have injuries, but they are not serious at all. They will remain in hospital for one or two weeks," Dan said in Galați.
He added that the woman and her son are in a "very good" psychological condition despite the shock they experienced.
Quote: "Of course, because the mother is an adult and the child is a minor, the child is here while the mother is in the county hospital. They are speaking to each other by phone and are optimistic."
Background:
- Earlier, Dan said that the Russian drone which struck the apartment building had been hit by Ukrainian air defence, causing it to change course.
- Romanian military officials explained that they had been unable to shoot down the drone because of the limited reaction time available and a number of restrictions that apply during peacetime.
- Romania's Foreign Ministry described the incident as a "serious and irresponsible escalation" by Russia and summoned the Russian ambassador.
- Romania believes there are grounds to invoke Article 4 of NATO, which provides for consultations among the Allies, and has asked its partners to redeploy additional anti-drone assets.
