Remnants of Hurricane Priscilla to bring rain by end of the week

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Parts of Southern California, the desert southwest and northern Baja will get a taste of some tropical conditions as a hurricane brews in the Eastern Pacific.

Hurricane Priscilla, about 215 miles south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California as of Monday afternoon, will continue moving north-northeast of the next few days before taking more of a turn east pushing over northern Baja by Thursday.

Tropical storm-like conditions are expected for Los Cabos into Tuesday night with dangerous surf, heavy rain and coastal flooding as the hurricane has the potential to strengthen to a major hurricane in the next 24 hours.

As it moves north, it will encounter cooler sea surface temperatures and start to lose most of it's intensity through the rest of the week as it parallel on the western side of the Baja peninsula.

An area of low pressure dropping in from the Gulf of Alaska will help to funnel this tropical moisture into Southern California with rain chances starting as early as Thursday lasting through Saturday. Rain chances peak for Friday mainly for the mountains and deserts.

Mid to high level clouds and some scattered showers look to approach San Diego County into Orange County early Thursday afternoon with most of the rain possible late Thursday night into Friday morning.

Models are in disagreement over how much rain we could get from this event and the exact timing of it all so forecast updates will be needed as the storm gets closer.

Priscilla is hugging the coastline of Baja so it might not nudge the south swell as much as Narda did but Friday would be the day to watch for any surf size impacts.

Once this tropical system moves out, we will be cooler and drier for the weekend with temperatures into the low 70s for the coast and upper 70s for the valleys.
