Record number of people took shelter in Kyiv metro last night
More than 41,000 people, including nearly 4,500 children, sheltered at Kyiv metro stations during a large-scale Russian attack on the capital on the night of 1-2 June.

Details: This is the highest number of people sheltering in the metro during an overnight air-raid warning in recent years.
Metro officials reminded residents that all 46 underground metro stations operate as shelters during air-raid warnings, with every station entrance remaining open to the public.
Background:
- On the night of 1-2 June, Russia conducted a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine using drones and air, sea and land-launched missiles of various types. Ukrainian air defences downed 642 aerial assets out of the 729 launched.
- The Russians directed the main strike towards Kyiv. The cities of Dnipro, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, as well as Poltava Oblast and other regions, came under attack.
- Six people were killed and another 79 injured as a result of the combined overnight strike on Kyiv.
