Rady Children's patients enjoy dolphin dive at SeaWorld

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI)-- SeaWorld San Diego is teaming up with Rady Children's Hospital on Thursday to host a seaworthy experience of a lifetime for 12 young patients.

The immersive Dolphin Interaction Program (DIP) allows patients of Rady Children's Hospital San Diego to dive with bottlenose dolphins at the park, while learning facts and tidbits about the social aquatic mammals.

The young patients, who have undergone various treatments with some battling cancer, will get the opportunity to immerse themselves in an unforgettable experience as they will swim alongside and interact with the friendly dolphins of Dolphin Point, the park's exhibit, starting at 9 a.m.

SeaWorld and Rady Children's are no strangers to hosting the event, which began in 2007.

The program was created by Joy Clausen Soto, a former SeaWorld dolphin trainer who survived her battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma while undergoing treatment at a Children’s Hospital in Southern California. Other SeaWorld zoological team members also helped bring the program to fruition.
