Details: Karakayev told Putin that a successful launch of the Sarmat, a new heavy liquid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile, had taken place on 12 May.

He added that the test results confirmed the "correctness of the design and technological solutions".

According to Karakayev, the system "is guaranteed to overcome existing and future missile defence systems", and launch facilities equipped with the system will significantly enhance Russia's strategic nuclear forces.

Putin said that it is "the most powerful missile system in the world".

Quote from Putin: "The total yield of the delivered warhead is more than four times greater than that of any existing most powerful Western equivalent."

He said the Sarmat will be deployed at the Uzhur missile division in Krasnoyarsk Krai by the end of 2026.

The Kremlin ruler added that the missile's range could exceed 35,000 km. Furthermore, according to Putin, it can travel not only on a ballistic trajectory, but also on a suborbital one.

He also claimed that the Oreshnik system could be equipped with nuclear warheads.

The Russian Defence Ministry posted video footage of the missile test.
