Police search for woman accused of armed robbery, assault

ST. LOUIS - A violent robbery on the 3700 block of Chippewa in South St. Louis has left a 29-year-old woman injured and residents concerned.

The incident occurred when the victim was sitting in her car and a suspect suddenly opened her door, threatened her with a knife and stabbed her in the neck and hand when she attempted to grab the weapon.

Police released a surveillance image showing the suspect dressed in all black with a blue surgical mask, contrary to initial reports suggesting she was wearing purple.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect visit a nail shop before attacking the victim in front of it.

“We’ll have neighbors arguing sometimes but most of the time it’s a peaceful thing. Pretty surprised about the incident that happened a few days ago. Honestly I’m not sure what’s going on with that," said Hussain Aldeni, a salesman.

Residents in the area mentioned that it is not uncommon to see people walking on Chippewa wearing masks and sweatsuits, though some were unaware of the incident.

“Yes I’m surprised to hear it because stuff like that don’t usually go on like that around here in this area," said resident Kenneth Napper.

The alleged suspect fled the scene with the victim's purse and money, and police are still searching for leads.

The victim was hospitalized in serious condition but has since been released.

“I’m very much surprised because I’m always walking the dog and having kids. I don’t too much ever hear anything especially on Chippewa," said Tamika Young.

Anyone with information about the suspect is encouraged to contact Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS, where tips can remain anonymous and may lead to a reward.
