Plane crash in Fallbrook leads to small vegetation fire
FALLBROOK, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A plane occupied by one person crashed in Fallbrook Tuesday afternoon, causing a small brush fire where it landed, according to authorities.
North County Fire Protection District crews responded to the plane crash near South Mission Road and Air Park Road just before 2:15 p.m., not far from Fallbrook Airpark.
Only one person, the pilot, was on the plane at the time. According to authorities, he had minor injuries as a result of the crash.
The crash led to a small spot fire near the plane, but the plane itself was not on fire, according to North County Fire. The fire was put out around 2:45 p.m.
California Highway Patrol issued a Mayday Alert, saying the plane was a "Cessna-type" aircraft that had landed near South Mission Road and South Stagecoach Lane.
South Mission Road from South Stagecoach Lane to Mission Oaks Road near the crash site has been closed. Traffic is being diverted to Rocky Crest Road.
