Pine Lawn residents demand action on gun violence, blight
PINE LAWN, Mo. -- Residents of Pine Lawn are demanding action from local leaders to address pressing community issues, including gun violence and derelict properties.
A community reunion was held yesterday at Pelton John Municipal Park, organized by longtime resident Abe Givins. The event aimed to highlight the need for change and encourage community involvement to tackle the city's challenges.
"We don't have community outlets for the residents. We have a bunch of derelict property. We don't have proper policing," said Abe Givins, who hosted the event. "It's a number of things that are happening in our community that we want to encourage change."
The reunion brought together residents and local officials, including the alderwomen of Pine Lawn, who stressed the importance of community participation in advocating for improvements. "Well, right now, our city is not where it needs to be," said one alderwoman. "We need our board and our residents to come out to support, to get our city back where it needs to be."
Residents like Imani expressed concerns about the pervasive gun violence in the area. "There's a lot of gun violence like I've experienced. I've witnessed it," she said.
A board meeting is scheduled for October 13th, where residents are encouraged to attend and voice their concerns to bring attention to these issues.
