Details: As of 3 April, official Pentagon figures showed that 365 American service personnel had been wounded and 13 killed as a result of the military campaign against Iran.
The Army accounted for the largest number of wounded, with 247 personnel, followed by the Navy with 63. A further 19 Marines and 36 Air Force personnel were also injured.
Background:
- Seven US service personnel were killed in Iranian strikes on US facilities in the region in the first days of the war. Another six were killed on board a lost refuelling aircraft, in what was described as an accident.
- Over the past 24 hours, it was reported that Iran shot down American aircraft, one F-15 with two crew members on board and one A-10 Thunderbolt II with one pilot. The fate of one of the F-15 crew remains unknown, while the others were rescued and are safe.
- In the first days of the campaign, the US lost three F-15 aircraft to mistaken "friendly fire" from Kuwaiti air defence systems, though all crew members survived.
