Palestine group can participate in Mizzou parade

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Despite a federal judge ruling that the University of Missouri had to allow a pro-Palestine organization group to participate in the homecoming parade, it’s not clear whether or not the group will actually be in this year’s parade.

Mizzou Students for Justice in Palestine sued the university after being denied from participating in 2024’s parade.

Last week, a federal judge ruled it was unconstitutional to ban the group. However, the judge also said the university could still enforce their parade policy.

“Not only does the Court’s decision help vindicate our rights after we were unjustly targeted and denied last year, but it’s a big win for the Palestinian movement across the country,” the student organization said in a statement. “No matter how hard they try to silence our voices, we will never stop advocating for the Palestinian people and their right to exist with peace and dignity.”

The status of the group’s involvement in this year’s parade remains unclear, as the university said last week that they were one of 10 groups denied permission to participate because they didn’t meet eligibility requirements.

Other groups denied include the Girl Scouts of Northern Boone County as well as a local chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
