Overland man accused of bringing gun to SEMO District Fair
JACKSON, Mo. – A Overland, Missouri, man is accused of bringing a loaded gun and ammunition to a fair in southern Missouri last Friday.
According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department’s probable cause statement, the incident took place around 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 12, after the SEMO District Fair had closed.
Police said security personnel at the fair told officers that an individual sneaked onto the grounds.
Security personnel told the individual, identified as Amirion R. Saffold, they were going to search his backpack, as it was fair policy to check all bags coming into the event area.
When security reached for the bag, police allege that Saffold struggled, made a threatening comment, and reached toward his rear waistband.
Security personnel tackled Saffold to the ground. A handgun was discovered in Saffold’s waistband. A bystander secured the gun as security personnel alerted law enforcement.
Police said they found ammunition inside Saffold’s backpack.
The Cape Girardeau Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Saffold with second-degree burglary – possession of firearm in a motor vehicle, armed criminal action, and fourth-degree assault. Saffold remains jailed on $50,000 cash-only bond. He has a status hearing and bond review hearing scheduled for Monday, Sept. 22.
