Details: According to Faridaily, citing a source within the ruling United Russia party and a sociologist familiar with the polling conducted ahead of the party's primary elections, the number of people willing to accept an outcome of the war that falls short of victory is increasing.
"In focus groups, voters are openly saying: we need a solution. We're waiting for a decision so that the war ends one way or another. If you can strike harder, strike harder. If you can do something else, do it," a source in United Russia's leadership said, describing the mood among voters.
A sense of fatigue also prevails among Russia's elites. "Everyone is tired of the war. Nothing is happening. It's not moving forwards or backwards," Faridaily quoted one Russian government official as saying.
The official added that there was no sense of accepting defeat: "People don't want to surrender. It's more like a demand to the boss [Putin]: 'You've always known how to solve problems. So solve this one.'"
Another source close to the Russian government said: "No one really understands what the plan for the war is. And the future in general is unclear."
