Only 22K new jobs nationwide in the month of August

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The U.S. Department of Labor's employment report, which was released on Friday, shows weak job growth nationwide in August, with just about 22,000 jobs added.

Tariffs, AI, immigration policies, and increased minimum wages are some of the factors behind the lower-than-expected jobs numbers.

San Diego employment attorney Annie Ellis joins Good Morning San Diego to discuss the disappointing August jobs numbers.

"The September report that comes out in a month, that's going to be even more telling because we're going to see all the federal government employees fall off the severance payroll and there's going to be another downward revision," Ellis said.
