One dead, three seriously hurt in suspected DUI crash on SR-76
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- One person died and three others were seriously hurt in a suspected DUI crash over the weekend on State Route 76 in the Pala area.
The two-vehicle collision occurred Sunday around 1:45 a.m. on SR-76, located east of Magee Road, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Monday.
A 21-year-old man from Pala was driving a white Dodge Durango when for unknown reasons he lost control and spun into the opposing traffic lane, crashing head-on into a white Honda Civic driven by a 54-year-old man of Apple Valley, CA, according to authorities.
The driver of the Dodge, his 25-year-old passenger and the driver of the Honda were all taken to the hospital with major injuries, per CHP.
However, the right-front passenger of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge, identified as Antonio Albert Gonzalez III, was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence (DUI), felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and homicide-related charges.
