Officer Travis Brown's resilience shines in recovery journey

FERGUSON, Mo. – Almost one year to the day since he was assaulted and left with a brain injury, life has been challenging for a Ferguson police officer. But his family is not giving up on hope, as Travis “TJ” Brown continues to make progress with his recovery.

“He made two declarations. He wrote, ‘I will walk again. I will run again.’ So, he knows what he wants. He’s determined,” Brown’s sister, Ramona Gordon, told FOX 2.

The officer’s family also released a statement, saying:

By God's amazing grace, it has been one year since our beloved TJ suffered a traumatic brain injury followed by many other severe injuries and complications. The Brown Family is forever grateful for every heart that has embraced us along this miraculous journey as TJ continues to recover.

TJ is very cognizant of his circumstances and has chosen to put his thoughts and strength towards overcoming every challenge until he's able to recover what he's lost. TJ is resilient, strong, and full of compassion for life. As we celebrate his current progress, we also embrace ourselves for the long days ahead.

We'd like to take this time to honor all first responders, who make countless sacrifices on a daily basis in the call for service, including placing their lives on the line. As first responders, you are an integral part that keeps our communities together.

While there may be many problems in the world, may we strive for solutions that value lives. We've had the opportunity to meet several families, who have been impacted in various ways by health challenges. Like us, everything is great with your loved one then there's a call that introduces you to a sudden reality. As we've talked to so many of these families, here's the resounding message. Life is precious! Time waits on no person. May we all choose to embrace the time we have and the souls that we have been blessed to accompany us in the journey of life.

Thank you for your prayers and continued support for TJ's recovery.
