Oceanside school that offers teen parents education gets multi-million dollar renovations
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Surfside Educational Academy in Oceanside is getting a multi-million dollar renovation and is one of the few schools still providing a Child Development Center for teen parents.
The school offers teen parents an opportunity to get a free public education while also offering on-site care for their child.
“When I came here to Surfside, I was terrified what students would think,” said Juliana Arispe.
Arispe had her son when she was 15-years old and said if it wasn’t for Surfside Educational Academy, she likely would have dropped out. The school allowed her to go back to school all while helping provide food and diapers and clothes and caring for her son during the school day.
“When we come to school, I walk in the door, I feel they’re family. I am welcomed here no matter what," she said.
Arispe is a 2025 graduate who gave the school commencement speech where she praised the Child Development Center for helping her get an education and her diploma. She now has aspirations of going to college.
Aside from offering schooling for teen parents, the school offers a variety of educational options for all students K-12 who come from all socio-economic backgrounds.
It’s undergoing a much-needed renovation which will bring all new buildings to the school and a new Child Development Center. Phase One of construction, which included a new parking lot, has already been completed and the rest is expected to be finished in about two years.
