Norway to provide another US$500m for US-made weapons for Ukraine
Norway's Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has announced that the government will provide a further US$500 million for the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) programme, which funds US-made weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Details: Based on this announcement, Norway – already emerging as one of the leading contributors to Ukraine's defence needs – is prepared to single-handedly cover half of the total planned financing for December.
Eide said that Norway will announce an additional US$500 million for the PURL programme, to be delivered in two packages: one alongside Germany and Poland, and the other with Germany and the Netherlands.
NATO reportedly aims to secure monthly financing of US$1 billion. However, there is no upper limit on procurement, and if funding increases, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive more weapons.
Eide explained the sharp rise in PURL contributions by the need to support Ukraine during the so-called "peace negotiations", adding that the situation demands a major increase in support to ensure Ukrainians could negotiate from a position of strength.
He also stressed that even if the talks are successful, the need to strengthen Ukraine's armed forces will not disappear.
The Norwegian foreign minister added that it is also important to remember that when the war ends, Ukraine must remain strong and capable of defending itself against any renewed hostilities.
Background:
- The previous package for the procurement of US weapons involving Norway was announced in mid-November, when Nordic and Baltic countries allocated another US$500 million for such purchases.
- It was also reported that Norway intends to allocate €6 billion for military support to Ukraine in 2026.
