Need documents certified? Last San Diego apostille pop-up to be held in November

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk Jordan Marks announced that San Diegans have one last chance this year to get documents certified locally.

Apostille services are for certifying the authenticity of documents for international use, including birth, death and marriage certificates, educational documents and others. The process involves getting documents signed by a public official, specifically someone with the California Secretary of State.

The last in-person apostille event in San Diego will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the ARCC Downtown office.

There have been three separate apostille pop-up shops in San Diego so far this year -- on Sept. 17, June 11 and March 12.

In-person apostille services are typically only available at California Secretary of State offices in Sacramento and Los Angeles.

According to Marks, providing a local pop-up event for San Diegans helps them avoid having to travel to those cities for in-person services.

He said some of the people who received help at previous pop-ups included a military member getting a driver's license certified for a deployment overseas, marriage certifications and international students getting their diplomas verified before returning to their home countries.

People must bring the original version of their documents to the event. It costs $20 to process each apostille document plus $6 for each public official's authentication signature, according to the ARCC's office.
