Natural gas smell reported in Florissant Wednesday morning

FLORISSANT, Mo. — Multiple calls about the smell of natural gas in Florissant on Wednesday morning prompted a quick response from the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District and Spire crews.

Fire officials said all reported incidents were investigated and only one small leak was found and quickly addressed by Spire. No immediate hazards to the public were identified, but Spire continues to monitor the situation. Fire crews remain on standby for additional calls.

The reports come just nine days after a massive explosion in north St. Louis County destroyed several homes, injured five people and rattled surrounding neighborhoods. That blast may have left some Florissant-area residents uneasy about potential gas-related issues.

Residents are encouraged to remain alert and report any suspected leaks by leaving the area immediately, avoiding matches or electrical switches, and calling 911.
