Multiple crashes on Beverly Hills corner prompt calls for action
BEVERLY HILLS, Mo. - Lucy Williams broke down in tears when she described the number of times cars had either hit her home or property on the corner of Natural Bridge Road and Maywood Avenue.
“I don’t sleep at night,” she said.
Williams is still paying for repairs from a crash that damaged her home in 2024. She says cars have crashed into her property five times.
The latest scare was Tuesday morning.
A car took out a section of her fence, flattened a street sign, and damaged Antwine Edwards’ parked car before driving away.
“I was scared to death,” said Edwards.
His Lincoln Town Car has hood and headlight damage from the crash, but Edwards is more concerned for the safety of residents who routinely walk through the area.
“People need to slow down, pay more attention to what they’re doing, and stop driving so fast,” he said.
The crash was within inches of where Williams’ grandchildren routinely play. She said pedestrians frequently travel through that corner on their way to a nearby market.
“Drive carefully,” said Williams. “People want to go home to their loved ones.”
FOX 2 reported on Williams’ frustrations in 2024. She formally requested help from the city of Beverly Hills and MoDOT in 2024. She requested that barriers be installed.
“I don’t think I’m asking too much,” said Williams.
She says her requests have been denied. Williams fears a life will be lost. She’s asking anyone with boulders or barriers to help her secure the corner.
“I don’t want to come out here and have a memorial on my sidewalk,” she said.
MoDOT released the following statement:
“MoDOT has an active construction project on Route 115 (Natural Bridge Rd.) from Lucas-Hunt to St. Louis City limits.
That project includes replacing sidewalks, installing pedestrian crossings, improving the pavement, and additional lighting will be installed by the city of Pine Lawn. The improvements near 6850 Natural Bridge rebuild the existing sidewalk, curbs, ramps, and entrances to make a clear pedestrian path.
There is not space available on MoDOT Right of Way to install the barriers that Lucille is requesting. Installing a barrier on the corner would also be a sight distance concern and not appropriate based on highway design guidance.
The speed limit on the section of Route 115 in question is 30 miles per hour. Reckless driving and excessive speeding are some of the most common causes of crashes, fatalities, and serious injuries on our roads.
MoDOT encourages motorists to prioritize safety over speed by adhering to the posted speed limit and driving appropriately for conditions such as weather, roadwork, or heavy traffic.”
