Missouri's 'absolute best BBQ restaurant' is in St. Louis, food writers say
ST. LOUIS - Missouri's BBQ bragging rights are always up for grabs between St. Louis and Kansas City. Over the years, there has been plenty of spirited debate about who truly does it better.
Now, one team of food writers has crowned a St. Louis BBQ spot as the Show Me State's best.
A research team at Mashed.com recently compiled a list naming "the absolute best BBQ restaurant in every state." Their selections were based on Yelp reviews, Google reviews, community Reddit threads and personal accolades. The Mashed.com food-writing team also had a chance to visit some, but not all, restaurants on the list.
According to Mashed.com, the best BBQ restaurant in Missouri is none other than Bogart's Smokehouse in St. Louis.
Bogart's Smokehouse opened in 2011 in St. Louis' Soulard neighborhood and is part of the same restaurant family as another St. Louis BBQ favorite, Pappy's Smokehouse.
The Bogart's Smokehouse menu features flavors ranging from Memphis-style to Louisiana-style BBQ. Popular options include pulled pork, smoky brisket, tri-tip sirloin, apricot-glazed ribs, pastrami and smoked turkey breast, many available as sandwiches or standalone entrees.
Guests can choose from two signature sauces - Sweet Meagan Ann and VooDoo - and three distinct dry rubs: Beef Keef, Magic Dragon and Red Headed Stranger. Each offers a unique flavor profile. The meats are made fresh daily and slow-smoked over apple and cherry wood for maximum flavor.
Mashed.com offers the following review of Bogart's Smokehouse:
"Bogart's has two sister restaurants that both serve delicious barbecue: Pappy's and Dalie's. Across the three restaurants, you'll find a variety of BBQ flavors, from Memphis to Louisiana. Bogart's has a creative menu featuring items like smoked tri-tip sirloin, pastrami, and apricot-glazed ribs. The award-winning barbecue can be purchased for dine-in or in bulk by the pound."
Bogart's Smokehouse is located at 1627 S 9th St. in St. Louis City and is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
