Missouri Democratic Party plans to protest redistricting at State Capitol Wednesday
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Tuesday, Missouri's Republican-led House passed a plan backed by President Donald Trump to redraw the state's congressional districts.
The Missouri Democratic Party (MDP) said in a statement Tuesday that new maps are "intended to silence the voices of tens of thousands of Missourians."
Chair of the Missouri Democratic Party Russ Carnahan and MDP leadership are encouraging Missourians to join them Wednesday at the State Capitol, where multiple demonstrations are planned.
A rally will be held by the Missouri House Democrats at the State Capitol Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., and another rally organized by pro-democracy organizations is scheduled to start at noon.
"What Missourians need right now is leadership that is focused on their needs, not taking away their rights," Carnahan said. "It is shameful that politicians in Jefferson City are using this session to attack their constituents instead of doing things that actually matter: fighting rising prices, reducing energy costs and helping everyday Missourians make ends meet."
