Missouri bald eagle rescued after motorist accident and lead poisoning
FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. -- An American bald eagle is back in the sky this week after his wing was clipped by a motorist in Pulaski County, Missouri.
According to Fort Leonard Wood Conservation Law Enforcement, the eagle was injured on Polla Road near Waynesville, Missouri. on Jul. 7.
The adolescent eagle was rescued by conservation officers and taken to a veterinarian team to receive treatment at the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, Missouri.
The veterinarian team discovered the eagle's inability to fly had not come from a wing injury but from a high level of lead in its blood.
According to a press release, the increase of lead levels is commonly caused when the bird feeds on carcasses or fish that have had lead shot or lures in them.
