Miramar air show wows crowds with thrilling demonstrations

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Day two of the Miramar Air Show brought high-flying stunts, booming explosions, and a powerful reminder of the connection between San Diego and the U.S. military.

Tens of thousands of spectators lined the flight line Saturday to watch demonstrations from Marines, sailors and airmen stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. The show featured both air and ground elements, highlighting the Marine Air-Ground Task Force.

“So many events, this is day two of America’s airshow,” said Capt. Mikaela Frias, communications strategy and operations director for the Miramar Air Show. “Earlier today, we had the MAGTF demo, which included not only aircraft but also ground and logistics elements, which was super awesome.”

For some, it was a tradition. For others, like Marine Sgt. Keontae Martin, it was a first-time experience.

“It’s my first air show,” Martin said. “And I know what a good air show looks like. This is it right here.”

“So far, I enjoyed watching the explosions go off,” another attendee said. “It’s super cool. You just feel the heat.”

The event isn’t just about entertainment, it’s about community and patriotism.

“Honestly, for me, it’s just basic patriotism,” said attendee Sequoia-Rock Hall. “I feel like all of us as Americans have stuff to owe to those who have served our country.”

From family-friendly displays and aircraft tours to the iconic Blue Angels, the Miramar Air Show continues to unite generations under one sky.

Organizers said attendance has already surpassed last year’s numbers, with 10,000 more visitors on opening day alone.

The show runs through Sunday, closing out a weekend that blends aviation thrills with a salute to service.
