Mascoutah woman struck, killed in hit-and-run crash in Belleville

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. - A Mascoutah, Ill., woman was killed early Thursday morning after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in Belleville.

According to the Belleville Police Department, the crash happened overnight around 3:30 a.m. on the 900 block of South Green Mount Road, near U.S. Route 15.

When officers responded to the scene, they found a woman, Emily Johnson, 33, who had sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment after the crash but was later pronounced dead.

The driver involved in the crash left the scene before authorities arrived, police said. The vehicle has since been located and the driver was taken into police custody.
